The MODIS instrument, aboard the Terra and Aqua satellites, provides high radiometric sensitivity (12 bit) in 36 spectral bands ranging in wavelength from 0.4 µm to 14.4 µm.
Terra (EOS AM) MODIS Satellite- Launched December 18, 1999; passes from north to south accross the equator in the morning.
Aqua (EOS PM) MODIS Satellite- Launched May 4, 2002; passes from south to north across the equator in the afternoon.
