Tricon America, Inc.

This Former Smelting and Casting Facility in Tarrant County is in the Operation and Maintenance Phase.

Site Summary

Tricon America, Inc. owned and operated this approximately 5-acre site at 101 East Hampton Road in Crowley, Tarrant County, Texas. From 1981-1985 waste produced from smelting and casting operations was stockpiled at the site.

Superfund Registry and Investigation

The TCEQ proposed the site to the state Superfund registry in July 1991 and conducted a remedial investigation from 1993-1997. The results identified barium, cadmium, chromium, lead and zinc in the waste and site soils, which required remediation.

Remedial Action

An Administrative Order was issued in 2000, listing the site on the state Superfund registry. The remedial action consisted of excavating the affected soil and waste and disposing of it at an off-site permitted landfill. The excavated areas were backfilled with clean soil and covered with vegetation.

Affected soil beneath one concrete slab was not removed, but an institutional control was filed to notify subsequent owners and operators about the residual chemicals of concern above the protective concentration level, and restrict them from removing the slab. The remedial action was completed in 2001.

Current Status

The TCEQ continues to perform routine inspections to ensure that the stipulations of the institutional controls are maintained.
