Frequently Asked Questions: Renewing a TCEQ Occupational License Online

Answers to questions that individuals may raise during online license renewal.

For All Individuals Applying for Renewal Online

After reviewing these questions and their answers, please return to the links above for program-specific FAQs.

Who is eligible to renew online?
Any licensee whose license is current and will expire within 60 days may renew. Also, any licensee whose license has been expired for less than 30 days may renew. The TCEQ mails renewal notices to each licensee approximately 60 days before the expiration of the license. Licensees will use their license number and the last four digits of their Social Security number to log in to the application. Please be sure to use CAPITAL letters when entering your license number.

Can I renew online at any time?
Yes, if you are eligible to renew online. The system is available seven days a week, 24 hours a day, except for routine-maintenance down time.

How does online renewal work?
It’s simple. First, log in by entering your license number—using uppercase letters—and the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you are eligible, you will be given an option to renew at this time. Next, answer the questions, review your information, and then proceed to the payment page. Finally, after supplying payment information, review and print the transaction receipt. After reviewing and approving the renewal application, the TCEQ will mail the renewed license to the licensee.

What if I just completed my required CEUs last week but the system still will not let me renew online?
Yes, you will be able to apply online, but you may get a deficiency letter if you don't have the required CEUs.
You will not be eligible to renew online until a roster from the training is submitted to the TCEQ by the training provider and it is entered into the licensing database. It can take up to 30 days for the training record to be entered into the system, depending on when the training provider submits the roster. Updated files are sent to Texas Online daily basis, so you will be eligible to renew online as soon as the training is submitted and updated in our system.

How can I find my license number and license expiration date?
Search our database for records under the TCEQ’s programs for occupational licensing. Please make sure to enter all search terms (such as surnames and company names) correctly.

If I renew online, will I get my license faster than if I renew by mail?
Yes. Online renewal applications and payments are submitted daily to the agency, eliminating time for mailing and payment processing. The agency is currently processing all renewals within 45 days from when all requirements are met and payment is processed.

Will I be eligible for a refund if I change my mind about renewing my license?
No, application fees are non-refundable.

How long will my renewal period be?
Licenses are valid for two or three years. Your actual issue and expiration date will be stated on your renewed license.

Can I change my name as part of online renewal?
No, name changes must be conveyed in writing to the TCEQ, providing the required documentation.

Can I change my mailing address as part of online renewal?
Yes. Simply enter the address in address line 1 in the online application. Please validate your address through the United States Postal Service web site to ensure that the address provided meets the current format and standards. Enter your address and it will provide you with the correct format. Then, simply enter the address in line 1 the way the USPS displayed it. Your license and renewal forms will be mailed to the address you enter.

Can I print a copy of my renewal information?
Yes, a printer-friendly version of the renewal information is available as part of the online application.

What options are available for online payment?
Payments can be made using credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express) or ACH electronic payment methods. Third-party payment can also be set up, allowing an employer to pay for one or more employees.

How does third-party payment work?
The employer contacts the TCEQ to obtain a unique ID number. The employer will give this ID number to its employees, who will enter this number on the Third-Party Payment page of the online application.

What information do I need to make a payment online?
License renewals require a valid credit-card number, expiration date, billing name, and billing address. For electronic check payments, a valid bank routing number and savings or checking account number are required. For third-party payment, you will need your employer’s unique ID number.

Can I print the payment receipt after completing the online renewal process?
Yes, please follow the instructions on the online application at the time of payment.

Can I use my printed payment receipt as a temporary license?
No, your license is not renewed until all renewal requirements are met. The printed payment receipt only verifies payment for your renewal.

Who do I contact with technical difficulties in navigating the Texas Online site?
Online Support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, through the Texas Online help desk at 1-877-452-9060, or by e-mail at webhelp@texasonlinehelp.com.

If I am unable to log in to the site, who do I contact?
Eligibility is determined by the TCEQ. In the event you are unable to log in to the site, please refer to the eligibility requirements page for renewal criteria, or contact the TCEQ Licensing Section to confirm eligibility.

How do I contact the agency about my license?
Via e-mail licenses@tceq.texas.gov or by calling 512/239-6300.
