TCEQ approves fines totaling $697,926
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality today approved penalties totaling $697,926 against 37 regulated entities for violations of state environmental regulations.
Agreed orders were issued for the following enforcement categories: ten air quality, one industrial waste discharge, one licensed irrigator, two multi-media, two municipal waste discharge, 14 petroleum storage tank, and three public water system.
Default orders were issued for the following categories: one air quality, one municipal waste discharge, one petroleum storage tank, and one public water system.
Included in the total are penalties of $250,000 against BASF Corporation in Brazoria County for air quality violations stemming from a routine investigation on May 17, 2012. Half of the penalty amount will be applied to a Supplemental Environmental Project and paid to the Houston-Galveston AERCO. These funds will be used to retrofit school and mass transit buses with devices that cut air pollution.
