TCEQ Approves Fines Totaling $647,603
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality today approved penalties totaling $413,304 against 24 regulated entities for violations of state environmental regulations.
Agreed orders were issued for the following enforcement categories: six air quality, one industrial waste discharge, one multimedia, one municipal waste discharge, seven petroleum storage tank, one public water system, and two water quality.
Default orders were issued for one dry cleaner, one irrigation licensing, and three petroleum storage tank.
In addition, on April 11 and 29, the executive director approved 87 agreed orders, each $7,500 or less, totaling $234,299.
Included in the total are penalties of $168,832 against Western Refining Company, L.P., in El Paso County, for air quality violations noted on various dates from 2004-2009. Half of the total fine will be used by the Texas Association of Resource Conservation and Development Areas, Inc., for its abandoned tire cleanup program, specifically in El Paso County, the Rio Grande River Basin, and the Hueco-Mesilla Bolson Aquifer areas.
