TCEQ Approves Fines Totaling $904,545

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality today approved penalties totaling $904,545 against 91 regulated entities for violations of state environmental regulations.
 
Agreed orders were issued for the following enforcement categories: One agricultural, 24 air quality, one Edwards Aquifer, three industrial or hazardous waste, two industrial waste discharge, one irrigation licensing, one municipal solid waste, 13 municipal waste discharge, 25 petroleum storage tank, six public water system, one sludge, and two utilities.

There were six field citations.

In addition, default orders were issued for the following categories:  One irrigation licensing, one petroleum storage tank, one public water system, and one utility.

Penalties were also assessed in one petroleum storage tank case, following hearings at the State Office of Administrative Hearings.

Included in the total was a fine of $212,500 against J-W Operating Company, Wise County, for air violations noted in a December 2010 records review.  The entire amount of the penalty will be contributed to a Supplemental Environmental Project to the University of Texas–Arlington, for the Texas Air Monitoring Network.
