Grant money available to make school buses cleaner
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality announced today that grant applications are now being accepted from schools statewide to retrofit eligible diesel-powered school buses with emissions-reduction technology. This grant opportunity is open to all public and charter schools in Texas that operate one or more diesel-powered school buses.
A total of $3 million is available to reimburse school districts for installing pollution-control retrofits on older diesel school buses.
While a school district may apply for any amount of funding, the TCEQ has limited funds and will review applications on a first-come, first-served basis. The deadline for application is November 21. More than 7,100 buses across the state have been retrofitted since the beginning of the Texas Clean School Bus Program in 2008.
