TCEQ approves fines Totaling $910,673
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality today approved penalties totaling $743,616 against 34 regulated entities for violations of state environmental regulations.
Agreed orders were issued for the following enforcement categories: one agricultural, four air quality, one industrial hazardous waste, one industrial waste discharge, two multi-media matter, five municipal waste discharge, eight petroleum storage tank, 11 public water system, and one water quality.
Included in the total are penalties of $300,256 against Gulf Chemical and Metallurgical Corporation in Brazoria County for numerous violations including inadequate record keeping, improper design and maintenance of containment structures, and unauthorized discharges resulting in industrial solid waste and hazardous waste violations stemming from TCEQ investigations in January and February of 2011.
In addition, on Dec. 21, 2013, the executive director approved 71 agreed orders, each $7,500 or less, totaling $167,057.
