The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s Chairman Bryan W. Shaw, Ph.D. and Commissioner Carlos Rubinstein will attend the El Paso Environmental Summit on Oct. 7. This important meeting of federal, state and local leaders and local stakeholders engages communities in working together to improve their environment.

“The environmental summit concept was born here and has matured into a helpful forum,” says TCEQ Chairman Bryan W. Shaw, Ph.D.  “I welcome opportunities to work with the people of El Paso and their leaders to identify and discuss solutions to environmental issues in a spirit of cooperation.”

“I’d like to congratulate the City of El Paso on this, their 11th environmental summit, and for being a model in this regard for the rest of the state,” says Commissioner Carlos Rubinstein. “Water is of concern to all Texans in this extended period of drought and creative solutions like desalinization at Fort Bliss may extend to other regions as well.”

The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Camino Real Hotel, 101 South El Paso Street, El Paso, Texas, 79901. U.S. Congressman Silvester Reyes is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the luncheon. Breakout sessions (solution sessions) will cover environmental topics, such as “Stepping Up to the Plate,” which discusses finding solutions for the illegal dumping of tires, and a youth program that discusses the “Life of the Bag” and the “Ban the Bottle” initiatives.

The summit is free and open to the public, however, registration is required.
