Executive Director Interim Disposal Rate
The Executive Director Interim Disposal Rate Schedule establishes a base rate by volume, per cubic foot; by radioactivity, per curie; and surcharges to the base rate related to relative hazard for each waste shipment. Additionally, all waste shipments are subject to state fees.
Please note that these interim disposal rates will apply to commercial low-level radioactive waste accepted at the operational Compact Waste Disposal Facility, owned by the State of Texas and operated under license by Waste Control Specialists LLC. Senate Bill 1504, adopted by the 82nd Texas Legislature, creates the option for the our executive director to set these interim disposal rates in advance of the formal disposal rate-setting process.
The formal disposal rate-setting process will begin later this year when we propose a recommended disposal rate schedule. That process will include public notice, consideration of public comment, and the opportunity for a contested case hearing, followed by expedited rulemaking.
