NORM Drinking Water Treatment Residuals Stakeholder Group
The NORM Drinking Water Treatment Residuals Stakeholder Group is a voluntary advisory group created to provide comments from interested persons to TCEQ staff relating to regulation of the management and disposal of certain drinking water treatment residuals (NORM DWTR) through underground injection.
To obtain advice, recommendations and suggestions from affected or interested persons, this advisory group is soliciting comments to address possible rule changes that will be proposed to include new technical standards for the special case of Class I wells injecting certain nonhazardous NORM DWTR into a bedded salt formation.

Amendment of the Underground Injection Control General Permit
One option to provide expedited application processing for use of a Class I well to dispose of NORM DWTR may be authorizing disposal of these wastes under the Underground Injection Control (UIC) general permit (GP), WDWG010000. The UIC GP authorizes the use of a Class I well to inject nonhazardous brine from a desalination operation or nonhazardous DWTR. To incorporate standards for disposal of NORM DWTR into a bedded salt formation, the UIC GP requires amendment. Amendment of the UIC GP is in progress.
