Monitor well-head casings prevent the intrusion of surface runoff into the soil and subsoil. The location of each monitor well is mapped, and it is clearly marked. Water in the wells is collected and analyzed periodically to determine if the contaminant is spreading. Monitor wells are also placed to determine the outer edge of the sub-surface groundwater contamination.
