Sampling Soil Gases

Sampling of soil gases (air in the soil) was performed to see if this method works at the site. First, a rod is hammered into the soil to make a cylindrical hole. The orange part at the top of the rod is a weight that is slid up and down to hammer the rod into the ground.

Soil Gas Concentrations

Often, concentrations of contaminants in soil gases, if they can be read by very sensitive instruments, indicate what the relative concentrations are in groundwater below the soil. When this is the case, this allows for a more effective placement of monitor wells.
