Environmental Crime

The TCEQ provides technical support and criminal investigative expertise in multi-agency investigations. We also serve as a resource for and provide training to local, state, and federal law enforcement officers on criminal environmental violations. Our goals are to increase recognition of environmental crime as a threat to public safety and to encourage and support enforcement of environmental statutes at the local level.

The following resources are available.

Officer Training

If you are a Texas peace officer who investigates environmental crimes or an officer who represents a department that is interested in developing an environmental crimes program, you are eligible to take the TCEQ's 24-hour TCLEOSE certified training course, which we offer periodically.

The goals of the Criminal Environmental Law Training Course:

  • increase your awareness of environmental crimes in Texas;
  • strengthen your ability to interpret and apply environmental statutes;
  • enhance your skills in the use of safe, innovative enforcement and investigative techniques;
  • establish partnerships between you and environmental enforcement officers throughout Texas; and
  • explain environmental laws and investigation techniques.

For more information about training opportunities, please contact Dan McReynolds, manager of the Environmental Crime Unit.
