TMDL Projects for Organic Substances

Current TMDL projects for water bodies where high concentrations of organic substances like herbicides, pesticides, or industrial compounds may make it unsafe to eat fish or use the water as a source for a drinking-water treatment facility.

Organic substance are chemical compounds such as pesticides or herbicides. These chemicals, in high concentrations, may be harmful to aquatic life or may impair the use of a water body as a source for a drinking water treatment plant. Organic substances may also accumulate in the tissue of fish and pose a risk to people if consumed in large quantities over a large period of time.
