The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality wants to hear—and see—how the state’s students Take Care of Texas. Young storytellers have the opportunity once again to enter the annual Take Care of Texas Video Contest.

The contest is open to students throughout Texas in grades six through 12, whether they attend a public school, private school, or are homeschooled. The competition is a fun way for students to learn about protecting the environment and come up with creative ways to share this knowledge.

Videos must be 30 seconds long and portray positive ways Texans can help keep our air and water clean, conserve water and energy, or reduce waste. Videos must include the slogan, “Take Care of Texas. It’s the only one we’ve got.”  See the complete requirements for entries.

Three high school students will win scholarships from $500 to $2,500 and three middle school students will win GoPro camera packages, courtesy of Waste Management of Texas.

The contest deadline is Dec. 6, 2019. The public will have the opportunity to pick their favorite videos from Jan. 15-29, 2020. After the public narrows down the entries, a panel of TCEQ staff and representatives from the sponsor will choose the first, second, and third place winners from each of the grade groups. Winners will be announced Monday, Feb. 24, 2020.

Take Care of Texas is a statewide campaign from TCEQ that encourages all Texans to help keep our air and water clean, conserve water and energy, and reduce waste.
