TCEQ approves fines totaling $305,834

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality today approved penalties totaling $269,867 against 20 regulated entities for violations of state environmental regulations.

Agreed orders were issued for the following enforcement categories: four air quality, one multimedia, one municipal wastewater discharge, four petroleum storage tank, four public water system, and one water quality.

Default orders were issued for the following enforcement categories: one air quality, one multimedia, one water operator certification, and two public water system.

Included in the total is a fine of $206,083 against INEOS USA, LLC of Brazoria County for air quality violations stemming from failure to comply with maximum allowable emissions rates, as well as other TCEQ rules, at various times from 2005 through 2014. As part of a Supplemental Environmental Project, $82,433 of the amount will be used by the Houston-Galveston Area Council for the Clean Vehicles Partnership to replace old, higher-emission buses with newer, lower-emission buses, or to retrofit old buses with emissions-reducing equipment.

In addition, on Oct. 8, 2019, the executive director approved penalties totaling $35,967 against 31 entities.
