Bryan W. Shaw, Ph.D., P.E. and chairman of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality concludes more than ten years of service to the agency. He announces his retirement effective today.

“I am so grateful to have served with so many dedicated professionals at the TCEQ,” says Shaw. “It has been an honor and a joy to come to work every day because I love this agency and all we do to use sound science to protect the environment of the state.”

Shaw was appointed to the TCEQ by then-Gov. Rick Perry on Nov. 1, 2007 and appointed chairman on Sept. 10, 2009. Shaw brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to his position on the commission as both a professor and a licensed engineer. He came to the agency from Texas A&M University where he taught many courses focused on air pollution engineering. In addition, most of his research at TAMU covered air pollution abatement, dispersion model development, and emission factor development.

“As chairman of the TCEQ, Bryan Shaw brought science and reason-based oversight to some of the biggest drivers of the Texas economy, all while never wavering from his commitment to protect our natural resources. More specifically, he exemplified leadership in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, in bringing needed relief to affected Texans,” says Gov. Greg Abbott. “On behalf of the people of Texas, I thank Bryan for upholding the highest standards and for his commitment to public service, and I wish him the best in the next chapter of his life.”
