TCEQ releases names of 2018 TEEA winners

Nine winners have been chosen to receive the coveted Texas Environmental Excellence Award and will be recognized at the TEEA banquet on May 16.

The Texas Environmental Excellence Awards is a prestigious, annual awards program that honors achievements in environmental preservation and protection.

Judged by the governor’s blue-ribbon committee, this year’s winners for each of the nine categories are as follows:

Agriculture: North Plains Groundwater Conservation District, North Texas Panhandle, for their Master Irrigator Program.

Civic/Community: River, Lakes, Bays 'N Bayous Trash Bash, Galveston Bay Watershed, for their waterway cleanup event.

Education: Texas Well Owner Network, statewide, for their efforts to educate well owners.

Individual: Ashley Dang, Trinity, for her work in education and recycling.

Technical/Technology: Enchanted Rock, Ltd., Houston, for their design and implementation of natural gas microgrids.

Innovative Operations/Management: Recon Services, Inc., Austin, for their robotic recycling sorting system.

Pollution Prevention: Port of Corpus Christi Authority, Corpus Christi, for their ongoing initiatives, including recycling, sustainable business practices, and reduced water and energy consumption.

Water Conservation: Finisar Corporation, Allen, for their innovative wastewater treatment system.

Youth: We Care Act, Houston, for their work in disaster relief while promoting recycling, and hazardous waste reduction.

TCEQ commissioners will present the awards at the awards banquet on May 16, during this year’s Environmental Trade Fair and Conference.
