The Texas Clean School Bus Program distributed approximately $2.9 million in grants to replace 61 old, higher-polluting school buses across the state from September of last year through August of this year. In 2017, the legislature expanded the criteria for the TCSBP to also include grants for the replacement of older school buses with newer models.

The TCSBP traditionally provides grants for technologies that reduce diesel-exhaust emissions inside the cabin of a school bus, as well as educational materials to school districts on other ways to reduce emissions, such as idling reduction.

From 2008 to August 2017, the TCSBP used state and federal funds to reimburse approximately $29.8 million to retrofit 7,560 school buses in Texas, making them safer for students.

Now, the program can replace buses too.
