Bastrop Bayou: Implementing a Watershed Protection Plan

Continued development and implementation efforts of the Bastrop Bayou Watershed Protection Plan (WPP), including identifying implementation opportunities, replacing malfunctioning residential septic systems, and outreach and education.

Background

Bastrop Bayou and its tributaries are experiencing increasing concentrations of fecal bacteria as the population grows. The Bastrop Bayou WPP was developed to address this issue.

Project Description

Houston-Galveston Area Council coordinated with project partners to identify specific implementation opportunities, to arrange supporting services for implementation efforts, and to provide outreach and education on watershed issues. The project also included decommissioning several malfunctioning residential septic systems and installing several community pet waste stations.
