Federal Funding Available for Infrastructure and Technology Projects for Mid-to-Large Public Water Systems

September 2025—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that approximately $9.5 million in grant funding is available through the Midsize and Large Drinking Water System Infrastructure Resilience and Sustainability Grant Program. Funding may be used to protect drinking water infrastructure from natural hazards and extreme weather events, or protect technology from cybersecurity threats.

Eligible applicants must:

·        Be a public water system serving at least 10,000 people.

·        Submit a project proposal that improves resiliency or protection from cybersecurity threats.

How to Apply

If you meet the criteria to apply for this grant, submit a comprehensive proposal through grants.gov . Search for Opportunity Number EPA-OW-OGWDW-25-01.

Application instructions can be found on the EPA’s Midsize and Large Drinking Water System Infrastructure Resilience and Sustainability Grant Program webpage. You must be able to:

·        Identify the natural hazard, extreme weather, or cybersecurity risk that will be addressed by the project.

·        Describe any relevant recent events such as floods, droughts, or cyberattacks.

·        Include supporting documentation that demonstrates the relevance and urgency of the project. This includes evidence from a federal, state, regional, or local agency that confirms the risk to the area and where the project will be located.

The deadline for submission is Oct. 6, 2025.
