Revised Rule on Inventory Control for Retail Service Stations

February 2024—TCEQ has adopted and revised Title 30, Texas Administrative Code (30 TAC), Chapter 334 which regulates inventory control at retail service stations for underground storage tanks.

The new rule removes the inventory control requirements for retail service stations in 30 TAC Subsection 334.48(c) and takes effect Feb. 15, 2024. All retail service stations must continue to conduct inventory control until this date.

Note: Facilities choosing to stop inventory control in February are required to produce a 15-day inventory control rather than a 30-day inventory control.

Inventory control is still necessary if you use either of the following release detection methods:

  • Automatic tank gauging in combination with inventory control [30 TAC Subsection 334.50(d)(4)].
  • Statistical inventory reconciliation in combination with inventory control [30 TAC Subsection 334.50(d)(9)].

Retail service stations using these methods must continue conducting a 30-day inventory control to meet their release detection requirements.
