Occupational Licensing Benefits for Veterans and Military Service Members and Spouses

As of Sept. 1, 2023, military service members, veterans and military spouses will receive extra accommodations for obtaining, renewing, and retaining a license issued by the TCEQ.

Expedited Application for License

The TCEQ Occupational Licensing Section will expedite the initial review of an application for military members or current military member spouses within 30 days of receiving an administratively complete application.

Initial License Application & *Fee Waiver for Military Service Members, Veterans, or Military Spouses

You can qualify for the expedited review of a new license if your application is administratively complete and you are:

  • a military service member, veteran, or military spouse whose military service, training, or education substantially meets all of the requirements for a license; or
  • a military service member, veteran, or military spouse who holds a current license issued by another jurisdiction with licensing requirements substantially equivalent to those for the license in Texas.

*To qualify for the military fee exemption, it must be your first TCEQ Occupational License. If you are submitting multiple applications for licenses, the military exemption may only be claimed for one application. You must upload a copy of your DD-220 or DD-214 and marriage certificate (if applicable) supporting your military service and spousal status (if applicable).

Renewing an Expired License

An active-duty military service member, who was deployed out of state, may renew a license within two years of returning to Texas by completing a renewal application with the renewal fee and submitting a copy of the military orders verifying military service during the time the license expired.
