Ascension Texas

Ascension Seton is participating in the United Nations' Race to Zero campaign as well as the HHS Health Sector Climate Pledge. To establish a way forward, Ascension developed a long-term Environmental Impact and Sustainability program. This includes a food waste digester initiative that encompasses both upstream and downstream food waste diversion from landfills. With the installation of digesters in hospitals, Ascension is poised to surpass the goal of diverting 6% of municipal solid waste from the landfill.

Ascension has also begun initiatives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by transitioning to renewable energy sources, implementing LED interiors, and creating a real-time building management dashboard to track pre-set configurations for temperature, air changes, and humidity that deploys alerts when areas are of out of compliance.

With the addition of “Green Teams” at hospitals such as the Ascension Dell Seton Medical Center in Austin, Texas, staff have created a culture of natural resource stewardship that is evident to the people they serve.
