Don and Penny Johnson

Don and Penny Johnson have been volunteering with environmental education efforts and, in many cases leading them, in Missouri City, Fort Bend County, and Houston since 2003. After retiring from teaching in 2003, they embarked on a more than 20-year "career" of educating the public, especially the youth, about various aspects of the environment.

Their backyard butterfly habitat was featured on several garden tours where hundreds of people learned how they could provide native plants in their own backyards to attract butterflies and other beneficial insects. They have also mentored adults and children alike through the organizations they serve, including Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, Missouri City Parks Board, Missouri City Green, and Quail Valley Garden Club.
