ACCESS Watershed Science Education Program
The Texas Water Resources Institute is expanding its community educational science and stewardship program to targeted watersheds in Texas. The program will provide education and outreach on water quality, nonpoint source pollution, and other environmental-related topics for Texas students and teachers in the Trinity, Brazos, and Guadalupe watersheds.

Background
The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) developed the Active Community and Citizen Education for Science and Stewardship – or ACCESS Water program – to connect teachers and students with educational tools and resources. The program develops watershed-specific toolkits that include interactive data collection projects. These efforts have been shown to lead to better knowledge retention among students and enhance citizen involvement in watershed protection behaviors.

September 2024 – August 2027
TWRI and partners in targeted Texas watersheds will first assess regional needs for resources to provide science education. Based on these findings, ACCESS Water will create watershed-specific educational resources for teacher workshops and student engagement.
The project team will deliver four professional development workshops for educators in selected watersheds to increase the amount and improve the quality of watershed science content being taught in classrooms. TWRI will maintain a project website to share program materials, resources, and upcoming training opportunities.
