Industrial Wastewater Discharges: Am I Regulated?

Brief explanation of how to determine whether a facility must obtain an individual industrial wastewater permit. Links to relevant information.

Every facility that discharges wastewater must be authorized by either an agency rule, or by order of the Commission, or by an issued permit (general or individual)

If you have an industrial or commercial facility that...

  • discharges wastewater into water in the state;

  • or disposes of wastewater adjacent to waters in the state by land application(irrigation, evaporation, or subsurface disposal);

  • or does both;

then you must be authorized by one of the methods listed above.

TCEQ rules that may provide authorization for the disposal of wastewater by land application can be found in 30 TAC 210-E and 30 TAC 321.

Available General permits that may provide authorization for the discharge of wastewater into water in the state and/or the disposal of wastewater adjacent to waters in the state by land application can be found at Available Water Quality General Permits.

Information regarding the procedure to obtain an individual industrial wastewater permit can be found at Industrial Wastewater Discharges: The Permit Process.
