At the September 7, 2022 Commission Agenda meeting, the commissioners adopted revisions to the “Texas Surface Water Quality Standards,” as codified by rule in the Texas Administrative Code (TAC), Title 30, Chapter 307. The 2022 Standards became effective as a state rule on September 29, 2022. TCEQ submitted the 2022 Standards revisions and supporting documentation to EPA for review and approval on November 7, 2022. EPA provides notice to the TCEQ whenever approval or other actions are taken on portions of the revised standards. EPA must approve the 2022 Standards before the TCEQ may use them for federal permitting programs and other Clean Water Act (CWA) purposes. Meeting records from all workgroup sessions regarding the 2022 revision are provided below.

The 2018 Standards became effective as a state rule on March 1, 2018. TCEQ submitted the 2018 Standards revisions and supporting documentation to EPA for review and approval on February 27, 2018. EPA provides notice to the TCEQ whenever approval or other actions are taken on portions of the revised standards. EPA must approve the 2018 Standards before the TCEQ may use them for federal permitting programs and other Clean Water Act (CWA) purposes. On June 24, 2011, the Commission published notice in the Texas Register requesting preliminary written comments on the Texas Surface Water Quality Standards (Title 30, Chapter 307 of the Texas Administrative Code). This request was made in preparation for the next triennial review of the Texas Surface Water Quality Standards. On June 30, 2010, the Commission adopted revisions to the Standards and approved updated implementation procedures. See additional information regarding the revised 2010 Standards and implementation procedures.

Proposed Changes to Table 1 in the TSWQS
The table entitled, “ Proposed Changes to Table 1 in the TSWQS, 307.6 ,” lists the changes to the 2000 Standards version “Table 1, Criteria in Water for Specific Toxic Material Aquatic Life Protection.” The Proposed Changes table was created to address comments from the January 6, 2009, Work Group meeting. It provides information about why criteria changed for some substances and why some substances were added.
