NOTE: All exams have a 3 hour time limit unless otherwise noted. Not all CBT centers can accommodate more than 4-hour exams. Please confirm with the CBT center before scheduling.

Pre-approval of your licensing application is required. For pre-approval, applicants must:

• complete license requirements—
  • education
  • experience
  • training
• submit an application and the required fee using our online application: Occupational Licensing Electronic Application (OLEA).

Upon receiving an approval letter, the applicant will need to:

• make an appointment with a registered Test Center to take the exam - additional testing fees established by each CBT center may apply.
• bring approval letter with you to your exam.  If you do not have a copy of lose your approval letter, you can print a copy of your application status showing “Approved” from searching your name or license number.
• some test centers do not offer fee refunds.

Retesting by CBT after failing a written test is allowed, so long as your application is in an approved status.

Authorized Aids During Licensing Exams
The following articles may be used during TCEQ licensing exams: 

• A pencil or pen (supplied by the candidate or the testing center)
• Scratch paper (to be provided by the proctor, monitored, and collected before the candidate leaves the test center, whether blank or used).
• A non-programmable calculator.
• Candidates for all levels of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Supervisor examinations ONLY may bring and use training manuals, notes, copies of rules, etc. These are open book examinations.

Prohibited Aids During Licensing Exams
Cell phones, telephones, books, notes, smart watch, dictionaries, translators, or any handheld electronic or photographic devices, unless otherwise stated above, are NOT allowed to be used during the test or breaks or brought into the examination room.

Examinees shall not share, copy, or in any way reproduce any part of the examination. The TCEQ may revoke a license or deny a license application if the applicant has engaged in fraud or deceit in obtaining or applying for the license and may revoke any other TCEQ license held by the licensee.
