Requirements and eligibility for renewing a company or individual license or registration, including forms and links to renew online.

NOTICE: Important Update on License Renewals

House Bill 1237 passed during the 89th Texas Legislative Session and will become effective September 1, 2025. For license/registration holders that expire on or after September 1, 2025, this bill will allow up to 180 days after the expiration date of the license to submit a renewal application, with additional fees. Note that this renewal window does not extend the deadline to complete all required continuing education hours before the expiration date of the license.

How to Renew Your License:

  • You may submit your renewal application up to 90 days prior to the expiration date of your license but no more than 30 days after the expiration date, for licenses that expire before September 1, 2025.
    • A renewal notice will be mailed, at least 60 days prior to the expiration date, to the most recent address TCEQ has on file. As an additional courtesy, TCEQ may email you a renewal notice to the email address(es) on file.
  • Beginning September 1, 2025, for license or registration holders that expire on or after September 1, 2025, you may submit a renewal application up to 180 days after the expiration date of your license. Only one renewal application may be submitted after the license or registration expires and any application submitted more than 180 after the expiration date, will not be accepted, for any reason. Additional fees will apply if renewal application is submitted after the expiration date of the license
    • 1–90 days after expiration: Renewal applications will be accepted with a late fee equal to 1.5 times the normal renewal fee.
    • 91–180 days after expiration: Renewal applications will be accepted with a late fee equal to 2 times the normal renewal fee.
  • Effective September 1, 2025, a person who has applied for renewal of the license or registration, and is expired for 90 days or less, may continue to engage in activities that require a license or registration after the expiration of the license or registration until the license or registration is renewed or denied. If you have not submitted a renewal application and fee, or you are more than 90 days past your expiration date, you may not engage in activities that require a license or registration.
  • A person whose license or registration has been expired for at least 180 days, MAY NOT renew the license or registration. The person may obtain a new license or registration by complying with all the requirements and procedures, including the examination requirements, for obtaining an original license or registration.
  • Make sure you are eligible:
    • Check the renewal requirements for your license type.
    • Continuing education must be completed between the effective date and expiration date of the license.
      • Failure to complete required CE hours by the license expiration date will result in the denial of the renewal application, regardless of when it is submitted during the 180-day grace period.
    • Check your current continuing education credits by finding your license information on the TCEQ Licensing Search page.
  • Go online to renew your individual license or company registration .
  • When prompted to enter your license or registration number capitalize the first two alpha characters (e.g., AB1234567 or ABC123456).
  • If you are a class D water or wastewater license holder, when prompted complete the provided questionnaire. All other licensees may skip this section.
  • Pay the renewal fee with a credit or debit card. Print a copy of the receipt for your records. The receipt will not be mailed.
  • It is up to the license or registration holder to ensure all requirements are met in a timely manner. Please allow at least 30 days for processing. If you applied for renewal and you have not received a letter or a renewed license within 30 days, please contact us. Please do not contact us before that time.
  • It can take up to 3 weeks to process renewal applications with no deficiencies.

Application Deficiencies

If a deficiency is identified during the review of your application, a deficiency letter will be sent to the email address currently on file, or to your mailing address if an email is not provided. You will have 30 days from the date on the deficiency letter or the expiration date of the license, whichever is later, to resolve all deficiencies and to contact us to notify us that the deficiencies have been resolved. If you fail to resolve all issues identified and forget to contact TCEQ within that time frame, your application will automatically expire, and you must submit a new application, along with the required fee, to reapply for the license. Please note that application fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.

You can check the status of your application by regularly visiting the Individual Search or Company Registration Search pages. Use your full name and license number when communicating with Occupational Licensing staff to help ensure faster and more accurate service. If you applied for renewal and you have not received a letter or a renewed license within 30 days, please contact us.
