Industrial and Hazardous Waste Registration and Reporting: Am I Regulated?
Who must register and report for the Industrial and Hazardous Waste Registration and Reporting Program?
Generators of industrial and hazardous waste may need to notify or register with TCEQ, depending on the quantity and frequency of the waste generation at the site. For temporary, short-term, or episodic waste generation events, visit our Episodic Waste Generation page. If a site consistently generates the quantities listed below, the site must obtain a solid waste registration (SWR) as a generator:
- More than 100 kg (220 pounds) of nonhazardous Class 1 waste per month at an industrial site. (See Appendix F of the TCEQ-00002 instructions for assistance with determining if your site is industrial.)
- More than 100 kg (220 pounds) of non-acute hazardous waste per month. (Small Quantity Generators and Large Quantity Generators)
- More than 1 kg (2.2 pounds) of acute hazardous waste per month. (Large Quantity Generators)
Additionally, the following types of facilities/businesses must also obtain an SWR:
- Transporters of Industrial Class 1 waste or hazardous waste. (Registration only. This category has no reporting requirement.)
- Receivers of Industrial Class 1 waste or hazardous waste from an off-site source. (These facilities often also require a permit through the Industrial and Hazardous Waste Permitting Section.)
- Reverse Distributors of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
If none of the above statements apply to you, read the following regulatory guidance document: RG-222: Do You Need Industrial or Hazardous Waste Registration Numbers?.
To obtain an SWR, submit the TCEQ-00002: Notification for Hazardous or Industrial Waste ( instructions).
